It was fifty years ago today... one of the most popular Ray Bradbury adaptations was aired for the first time: "The Jar" on The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. Here's a full-page ad for that first broadcast. Click the image to enlarge.
I have blogged about "The Jar" several times before: click here to read more.
Very cool! What magazine is the ad from?
ReplyDeleteHi Jack. It's from DAILY VARIETY. I had always assumed CBS had paid for the ad, but it's really a promotion for Buttram, and his agent is mentioned... so maybe the agent paid for it.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. I wonder if this helped him get the role on Green Acres. I don't know if the timing is right. I'm sure you know this, but I seem to recall a half page writeup in TV Guide at the time the show aired as well. Boy, what I would give for digital access to old TV Guides!
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't know about the TV GUIDE article. I'll have to see if I can locate it somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about GREEN ACRES (a show which isn't known here in the UK), but since "The Jar" was early 1964 and GREEN ACRES started September 1965, I would think the timing was exactly right for the one to have affected the other.
