Phil-I appreciate the back story to films I watched when I was young. The 'beast' probably ignited a love of deep sea horror. Authors like H. Russell Wakefield and Clark Ashton Smith became favorites. Bradbury had a way of drawing out sympathetic emotions from unlikely sources.

"Unlikely sources" is right! This story, while not published in WEIRD TALES, certainly feels like it could have found a home there.
